Rheumatoid arthritis (RA)

PrCIMZIA® (certolizumab pegol) in combination with methotreaxate (MTX) is indicated for:

  • reducing signs and symptoms, inducing major clinical response, and reducing the progression of joint damage as assessed by X-ray, in adult patients with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

PrCIMZIA® may be used alone for reducing signs and symptoms in adult patients with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis (RA) who do not tolerate MTX.

Psoriatic Arthritis

PrCIMZIA® alone or in combination with methotrexate (MTX) is indicated for:

  • reducing signs and symptoms and inhibiting the progression of structural damage as assessed by X-ray, in adult patients with moderately to severely active psoriatic arthritis (PsA) who have failed one or more disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs).

About CIMZIA®

CIMZIA® is a prescription biologic medication that is injected under the skin and works to prevent inflammation that may result from an overactive immune system. In technical terms, it is a PEGylated TNF (tumor necrosis factor) blocker and the first and only PEGylated biologic treatment for moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis, moderate to severe plaque psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. The PEGylation process has been shown to help the medicine stay in the body.

CIMZIA® for rheumatoid arthritis

You have been prescribed CIMZIA® to treat your moderate to severe RA. CIMZIA® may also help prevent further damage to your bones and joints.

CIMZIA® is a medicine that is used to treat adults with moderate to severe RA.

You may be given other medicines for your RA before CIMZIA®. If you do not respond well enough to these medicines you will be given CIMZIA® to reduce the signs and symptoms of your disease.
 

CIMZIA®:

  • Can help reduce the signs and symptoms of RA (such as pain, swollen joints and fatigue)
  • May help improve your ability to perform daily activities (such as dressing, walking and climbing stairs)
  • May help prevent further damage to your bones and joints

People with rheumatoid arthritis usually have too much of a protein called tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) in their bodies. This can lead to painful and swollen joints. CIMZIA® can help reduce the amount of TNFα in the body to normal levels, helping to prevent further joint damage.

Together, you and your rheumatologist have decided that CIMZIA® is appropriate for you. Please use CIMZIA® exactly as prescribed by your doctor, and use it only as often as prescribed. This will help you get the most out of your therapy.

CIMZIA® for psoriatic arthritis (PsA)

You have been prescribed CIMZIA® because your doctor feels that it is appropriate medication to help you manage your psoriatic arthritis.

CIMZIA® is a medicine that is used to treat adults with PsA. You may be given other medicines for your PsA before CIMZIA®. If you do not respond well enough to these medicines you will be given CIMZIA® to reduce the signs and symptoms of your disease.

  • Reduce back pain
  • Reduce morning stiffness

You have been prescribed CIMZIA® to treat your moderate to severe plaque psoriasis (PsO). CIMZIA® may help reduce the signs and symptoms of psoriasis, such as pain, itching, and scaly patches on the skin.

How does CIMZIA® work?

People with PsO usually have too much of a protein called tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) in their bodies, which can cause symptoms of psoriasis. CIMZIA® works by binding itself to TNFα in order to reduce the amount of TNFα in the body back to normal levels, thus alleviating the inflammation.
